childhood injuries
- when i was super young and stayed at my cousins’ house out of town, we played outside and i tripped and landed on my face. didn’t break anything but the cuts and scratches were right out of a horror film, allegedly
- in first grade, a boy we collectively hated (i don’t remember why) threw a ruler at my eye like a shuriken. it missed but it still cut a little deep right under my right eye
- in second grade, while i was playing with a boy another boy thought i was bullying the other guy and picked me up and threw me to the floor wrestling style. i hit him in the head with my lunchbox for interrupting my playtime
- in sixth grade, a boy was running really fast and i was walking really slow and he was going horizontally and i was going diagonally in the school hallway and we essentially collided like a vehicular accident and i couldn’t walk for days even though nothing was broken
- also in sixth grade i fell off a cheerleading pyramid and also couldn’t walk for a few days
- once while i was walking while holding my mom’s hand an older boy who was playing a bat-and-ball game with some other guys swung his bat right as we walked by, and to this day i have a dent on my skull from where the bat hit me. i didn't cry even though it hurt like hell, so my mom never knew it even happened.
i’m trying to remember the funny little things my body went through because these days i bend down wrong and get a serious backache. i have a little paste tube on my work desk that says methyl salicylate that feels really really cold when i lather it on a hurting body part
when i used to go to aikido classes a few years ago i would get incredibly painful leg cramps during the warmup bit because my body doesn’t like that specific crouch-sit position we’re supposed to do during warmups
which is hilarious because i used to be the only one doing the splits right in taekwondo classes back in first and second grade. i stopped just as i got to green belt
i can’t do splits anymore and i haven’t tried to in years. i think maybe i want to try it sometime just to see if the body can re-learn things
